This cushion from the Xalda Collection is woven entirely from 100% Xalda wool, a native Asturian fiber that has clothed and warmed the rural communities of Asturias for centuries. Some of the threads are hand-spun, adding texture and authenticity to the piece, in natural brown tones that reflect the chromatic diversity of this breed of sheep, from dark brown to hoary gray and cardoon shades.
Xalda wool, a reference point in the history of Asturias, was already mentioned by classical authors such as Strabo and included in the Edict of Diocletian as “Asturian wool.” The Astures, the original inhabitants, wore black wool sashes, the genuine color of their sheep, reaffirming their ancestral connection to the land. The Tierra cushion celebrates this legacy and evokes living history, a tribute to the landscape and the knowledge passed down from generation to generation.
