Connecting the footprints.
The Bolgues bag is the result of a collaboration between Paz Mesa and Hosca Piel Tudanca. It is loom-woven with wool from Xalda sheep, a native Asturian breed, and made with leather from Tudanca cows, a native Cantabrian breed.
Its textured fabric, with large holes, evokes the marks left by hooves in the wet mud of springs, where paths and waters cross. Bolgues, the town near my home-studio, takes its name from buelga, an Asturian word that refers to those places where the earth bears the imprint of footsteps. It gives its name to a piece that celebrates the alliance between material, landscape, and rural memory.
