The Spelt collection is a tribute to one of the traditional and most important crops in Asturias.

The spelt is a wheat variety cropped in Asturias since the Neolithic age. The Triticum spelta is characterized for growing up in poor conditions and mountain terrain, being a generalized crop between Asturian people till mid XX century.

Not only it has a very high nutritional value but economic as well, so it was used for paying the land rents; and also symbolic, so it was the flour used for bread elaboration during the traditional rituals of the Ramos in the local festivals.

We continue this crop as a self-supply as it is traditionally done in this area. Its shape, colours and shades all along its growing stage, from lime green to sienna, are useful to me as a source of inspiration for the creation of this collection.

The spelt as an artistic inspiration

This collection is not only a spelt celebration, but also an invitation to connect yourself with the history and the nature through style.

The spelt history is a fascinating trip through time, which takes us from ancient civilizations to our days, revealing the importance and the versatility of this ancestral plant.

The spelt origins go back in time to the first steps of the agriculture, when the nomad communities began to domesticate plants and grow up crops for their subsistence. This tough plant proved to be of value in extreme climate conditions and difficult terrains, which made it in a trustable source of food in lands where other crops could fail.
