Paz González Mesa, a craftswoman from Las Regueras, who leads a project to recover the wool of the Xalda sheep from her farmhouse in Puerma, receives this afternoon in the Nuevo Teatro de La Felguera the “Verdes Valles Asturianos” prize awarded by the Marino Gutiérrez Suárez Foundation. The award is given for the work of innovation from the tradition that González Mesa develops from the Asturian rural environment. For the artisan from Puerma, the award is ‘a very special moment’, as it is recognition “for a project born out of love for the land, tradition and innovation in rural areas. Working with the wool of the Xalda sheep did not represent a step backwards, but a leap towards the essential: weaving the future, identity and sustainability with it. Thanks to those who have accompanied us along this path, to those who believe that the rural world has a lot to say in the 21st century. This award is also an impulse to continue creating, teaching and dreaming from the small and artisanal”.
